Rubber Banding

My entry for GMTK Jam 2023, and second game ever! (the first being for last year's jam)

In this game, you play as the most hated (but also necessary) mechanic in games: Rubber Banding!

Take control of the car in last place, and give it an extra boost. Overtake the opponents to gain points, but watch out: now you're not in last place anymore! You have a few seconds to win some more positions before control switches to the new last position.

Going from last to second-to-last gives you 1 point. One more position gives 3, and getting to first place gives you 5.

Manage the timing right and finish the 3 laps while controlling the first position to get a bonus 10 points!

CONTROLS:

• R to start/restart the game.
• Up to accelerate
• Left/Right to steer
• Ctrl for extra boost/tighter steering!

KNOWN BUGS:

• Sometimes when restarting you get a bunch of points from seemingly nothing
• Sometimes the ordering algorithm gets confused
